Mel Gibson is Drunk - Experiments in Search

Following on from my discovery about how quickly Google and MSN indexed the previously not found phrase verywrongmanship (see comment in Oneupmanship) I have decided to compare the three big search engines with each other and see how long it takes them to index my new unique joined-together junk word: melgibsonisdrunk.

Why select this? Well the I'm sure that searches for Mel Gibson are playing havoc with the search engines right now so a great reason to throw another page in there with his name on it. I have just confirmed that melgibsonisdrunk does not appear in any of the 3 big search engines yet. I will check back each day to see when each of them index it from here. If you discover before I post a comment then please post a comment letting me know which search engine.

Here are the search queries for each of the search engines. Just click the link to see if it's been indexed.

Now do you think that this is a publicity stunt along the lines of the often quoted "there's no such thing as bad publicity" ?

The only search engine to come up with a sensible alternative was MSN:

We couldn't find any results containing melgibsonisdrunk. Consider: mel gibson is drunk

Their alternative yielded 95,295 results on their search engine.

Is endemic to his origins. All ozzies are drunks.

Anon - such a pity for your theory that he's really a yank. Do some research.

Rob - I notice that you state that he's not an Aussie so you deny that fact. I don't see you challenging the "all ozzies are drunks" claim? :)

Actually I dispute that claim too :-) Myself alone is insufficient evidence. I know many Aussies who don't drink. Poor bastards! :-)

Google has indexed it first. Not surprising because they own blogger/blogspot.

Rob: Maybe they just didn't want to drink with you? :) (Of course I find that very hard to believe...)

I've just noticed that Yahoo indexed the word - that took about 2.5 days - my estimate.

Google took about 1 day.

MSN - still waiting...

I am surprised that 6 days later MSN has still not indexed melgibsonisdrunk. The indexed verywrongmanship withing about 4 days if my calculation was accurate and beat Yahoo to it.

Let's try that Yahoo link again: verywrongmanship on Yahoo - infuriating that I can't edit the comment above.

Strange - will only accept the link for MSN search and not for Yahoo search. Have blogger.com had a falling out with Yahoo?
